Anne Jacob Art practice
I am enthusiastic about 2D art and want to promote a distinctive artistic approach to any topic through a process-based practice, working with the media of photography, drawing, acrylic paint, forms of printing (collagraph, photolithograph and linocut) and collage.
I am interested in expressing the intrinsic, qualities of the subjects I choose, bringing out their hidden narratives and exposing the stories behind them. Expressing their distinctive and magical qualities and allowing the viewer to contribute their own experience and stories.
I’ve worked with the subjects of changing landscapes, derelict structures and the past histories associated with them. In particular, a Derbyshire wrought iron viaduct straddling the Erewash Valley (Ilkeston) and the port of Goole (river Ouse) are both examples of changing remnants from the former industrial Victorian era. My attention has also been captured by the workers who built and contributed to these structures in the turbulent late nineteenth century.
Searching out the drama, contrast or narrative of a place or situation appeals to me and often leads to works such as those I produced and exhibited to celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage.
Most recently, I’ve moved further into abstraction as a means of simplifying and clarifying a specific notion inspired by a particular place, event or human activity.
