Painting & Collage

25 October 2021

“At their best, paintings are dramatic events.”

– Jonathan Lasker, painter

Painting

Acrylic paint (in which a pigment is suspended in an acrylic resin emulsion) is a fantastic medium, I enjoy its adaptable nature either as a thick flexible paint or its diluted use giving a subtle watercolour effect. I like the medium for its potential for expression, using texture, tone and shapes and colour. The act of mixing colours can be a real joy.

Some of my favourite painters include John Hoyland, Ben Nicholson and Prunella Clough.

Collage

This technique ,(in which photographs, fabrique and other ephemera are arranged and stuck down onto a supporting surface)where edge is important feature, gives me another way of exploring a theme, using printed, photographic and painted material. Collage can be the assembling of materials that come from our life, and experiences and can be autobiographical.

I admire the collage artist Kurt Schwitters.
